Today, there are lots of tools that can help you create a mobile website or mobile customization to your website. Many tools look different, some are free, and others cost money. One of the first things you need to decide is whether you need a mobile website, or maybe it’s a mobile application that suits you best? Once you have made your choice, it is up to you to take the next step. Do you have the knowledge and time to get involved in the work of building your mobile website yourself or wishing to buy a finished product? The choice is up to you.

When should you choose a mobile site?

If you are considering creating a mobile platform for your organization or company, then it may be useful to know when a mobile site is preferable to a mobile application. The most important question you have to ask yourself is what is the purpose of the end product. If you want to create an interactive software, a mobile application is more appropriate. If you want to make mobile-friendly adaptation to a regular website, then it’s a mobile site you’re going to bet. Worth mentioning is that it may be unnecessary to create a mobile application if there is not already a mobile site as a base. A mobile web page is a good first step into the world of mobile phones.

When a mobile application is preferable

A mobile site has many advantages and is usually easier to produce and maintain. However, there are limitations with mobile websites, and sometimes a mobile application is required. For example, if you require:

  1. User-generated content
If your end product provides or consists of a tool that requires the user himself to create a part of the content. For example. A word processor, calculator or image editor.
  2. Interactivity
The end product is an interactive tool, where the user can customize and control the content. For example. A video player, compass or a game.
  3. Works without an internet connection
It should be possible to use your end product even when there is no internet access in the mobile phone.
  4. Access to technology
If you want your end product to use the other technology of the mobile phone, such as camera, extra processor power or pyrotechnics.
  5. Payment
You want the opportunity to charge for the use of your product.
